A framed black-and-white still life of four graduated gastropod shells, photographed by H. Landshoff for The Shell — the influential volume by Marguerite and Hugh Stix of the Stix Rare Shell Gallery in New York.
The original specimens were part of a joint collection with R. Tucker Abbott, who held the Pilsbry Chair of Malacology at the Academy of Natural Sciences here in Philadelphia. A subtly local provenance for a gallery wall.
