A pair of vintage Asian calligraphy brushes — substantial, weighty objects that read more like scholar's tools than studio supplies. The handles are turned from polished stone and a bone-like composite, banded and capped in the traditional manner.
The brush heads are full and soft — likely natural horse or goat hair — still functional for ink work but more often kept now as desk-top sculpture: laid on a stand, propped in a brush rest, or stood upright in a slender vase.
A handsome pair for a study, a library shelf, or an entry console where a single quiet, considered grouping is doing the styling.
